A pretty good stand alone fantasy story about a family of travelling Witchers (people who kill monsters) hunting a striga (big cursed monster).The Good: I didn't have to play the video game to know what was going on. The story worked well on its own. The crow boy was pretty awesome.The Bad: The art was just OK. Nothing to write home about.The Ugly: I didn't like how the crow boy part of the story ended. I would have liked to see something more definitive.Received an advance copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 starsTruthfully, I thought this would be a crappy cash-grab due to the new Netflix show (but this was published in 2014) or an equally crappy cash-grab due to the popularity of the video games.I'm glad I decided to give it a try because it was neither.It was actually a pretty good self-contained Witcher story.Don't get me wrong, this isn't your next must-read comic. Far from it. But it is exactly what I would have expected from a fantasy comic based off of the Witcher series.Geralt fights a cool monster...and there's a twist.The End.The art was nice and the plot was better than I expected.Recommended for fans of The Witcher.

This book was really pretty, but the writing in it was really muddled and confusing. The writing wasn't sure of who it was aiming at. I think this book was SUPPOSED to be a lore primer for people who've only played the games. However, the narratives were choppy, skipped over important details in favor of minor ones, and left me confused. It doesn't work for people who have read the books either, because it's so vague. It doesn't really summarize what happened in the books/game. It reads like a drunk history professor's work. It's just all over the place. It skips around, and is written in an annoying Roleplay-esque "I'm a snobby elf, here's the history of you humans because you're too dumb to remember" voice. It fails at its purpose of gently introducing newcomers to the lore, and it fails at being a refresher to those familiar with it.  This book just didn't know what it wanted to be: The Art of the Witcher or The World of the Witcher. The prose isn't good enough, isn't clear enough, to be a good intro to the lore. Wikipedia has much better summaries than this. And there's not enough art to call it an art book. Only reason I gave it three stars was because what little art is in it, is gorgeous. I regret that it isn't an art book. Next time CDPR wants to do a lore book, they need to STOP writing it in character. It doesn't help at all, and the elitist elven narrator just pissed me off. TLDR: if you want to get into the Witcherverse before playing the games, just read Andrzej Spakowski's books. Please don't waste your time with CDPR's because both of them are terrible and a waste of beautiful glossy paper. This book is NOT worth the $50 price tag. For that money, go buy the actual series and the three games.

57 years after Ellen Ripley had a close encounter with the reptilian alien creature from the first movie, she is called back, this time, to help a group of highly trained colonial marines fight off against the sinister extraterrestrials. But this time, the aliens have taken over a space colony on the moon LV-426. When the colonial marines are called upon to search the deserted space colony, they later find out that they are up against more than what they bargained for. Using specially modified machine guns and enough firepower, it's either fight or die as the space marines battle against the aliens. As the Marines do their best to defend themselves, Ripley must attempt to protect a young girl who is the sole survivor of the nearly wiped out space colony.

2011 science fiction film directed by Michael Bay

Set in 2031, the entire world is frozen except for those aboard the Snowpiercer. For seventeen years, the world's survivors are on a train hurtling around the globe creating their own economy and class system. Led by Curtis (Chris Evans), a group of lower-class citizens living in squalor at the back of the train are determined to get to the front of the train and spread the wealth around. Each section of the train holds new surprises for the group who have to battle their way through. A revolution is underway.

When bears are found dead in Norway, students from Volda University (Thomas, Johanna and cameraman Kalle) decide to investigate. They stalk the trail of the mysterious hunter Hans, expecting to find an explanation for the killings. The reluctant Hans tries to flee from the youngsters but then agrees to let them film him in action, provided they follow his orders. Soon the trio of students learns that Hans is actually a troll hunter working for a secret government agency. Further, several dangerous trolls have escaped from their territory and Hans is assigned to eliminate them.

A US research station, Antarctica, early-winter 1982. The base is suddenly buzzed by a helicopter from the nearby Norwegian research station. They are trying to kill a dog that has escaped from their base. They do find the remains of a strange creature the Norwegians burned. The Americans take it to their base and deduce that it is an alien life form. After a while it is apparent that the alien can take over and assimilate into other life forms, including humans, and can spread like a virus. This means that anyone at the base could be inhabited by The Thing, and tensions escalate.

To celebrate Rob's massive promotion, his lover, Beth, and friends, decide to throw a massive surprise farewell party, now that he is about to move to Japan. However, a deafening explosion and the arrival of an enormous scaly and gangly creature will abruptly interrupt the festivities, as all hell breaks loose in New York City, and the Statue of Liberty is decapitated.
